God Is On Your Side

Isaiah wrote,

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (Isa. 53:3, KJV)

God knows what you are going through. Jesus Himself knows the pain and suffering that occurs in your life. He endured many things at the hands of the Jewish leaders, and even abandonment by His own disciples.

Every time something bad happens, it brings misery and pain. Some people seem to have it easy in life. It seems they do not have to endure much trouble. For others, it seems like they were born to be dumped on. Of course, you and I cannot judge a person by the circumstances of life that surrounds him or her. But whenever trouble comes, no matter to whom, it brings misery, pain, and heartache.

We may never know the why of horrible situations that happen in life. But Jesus knows it all. And not only does he know about the things you have had to endure, but the Son of God knows the pain itself. Have you been robbed? Jesus was robbed by Judas, who stole from the common purse (John 12:4-6). Have you been beaten or otherwise injured? Do you know someone who has been physically or otherwise abused, or worse? Isaiah prophetically wrote of Jesus,

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isa. 53:4-5)

Jesus intentionally took the rejection of his own people, torturous scourging, and then death by crucifixion. He did it in our place to pay for sin. He went through the horrible experience because he loves you and me. So he knows firsthand the pain you have experienced.

In the process of healing from a tragedy there are some true words of comfort. Jesus—the very one who had to endure such horrible things—said,

Aren't two sparrows sold for only a penny? But your Father knows when any one of them falls to the ground. Even the hairs on your head are counted. So don't be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows. (Matt. 10:29-31, CEV)

When you are suffering, remember: God loves you. God is on your side.
